THE PERRY FAMILIES
OF TIPPERARY & CORK
This site is focused on the genealogy and
history of the Irish Perry families from Tipperary and
Cork , their relations in counties
Clare & Limerick and their descendants in Canada, the USA, the UK and around the world.
At this time the main lines being researched are the families who originally settled near Clonmel at Knocklofty & Woodrooff and the Perry
families of Kilboy and Cahir.
My site is far from complete and more will be added as I find
time. If you have any comments or contributions please contact me at
Perry of Ireland research.

RICHARD PERRY of Exeter, New Haven & Glasgow came to Tipperary as a "Cromwellian
Adventurer" around 1658.
He settled in Tipperary with most of his
family and it was his son, JOHN PERRY of Woodrooff and Knocklofty, whose
descendants became the gentry families at Woodrooff in
Co. Tipperary & in Co. Cork.
John's eldest brother Micajah Perry remained in England and founded the firm Perry & Lane.
PERRY of Woodrooff & Cork
The first reference to JOHN
PERRY of Kilboy is in a post-marriage settlement from
1763. In 1775 he became a Freeman in the
Corporation of Fethard and is listed as John Perry, Esq. of
"Kilbee". John appears out of nowhere and his parents and place of birth
remain
a mystery. It is possible that John descends
from the Perrys of Woodrooff and Cork and may be a disinherited son of
Samuel Perry of Cork.
This is yet to be confirmed but there is some
evidence that lead to this presumption.
There are two Perry families in Cahir that
show up during the early to mid-1800s.
Their origins are uncertain but again there are clues which
would suggest these families may also be connected to the families at
Woodrooff and Kilboy.
The origins of the EDWARD
PERRY of Liscannor in County Clare are still unknown but there is
some speculation
that he may also be related to the Perry
family at Kilboy in Co. Tipperary.
RICHARD PERRY
descends from the Kilboy Perry family and emigrated with his family to
Lloydtown, Ontario, Canada in 1831.

The PERRY family of Formerla , near Ennis, County Clare is thought to have descended from the Perry family of Devon and
therefore related to the families at Woodrooff and the Pery, Earl of Limerick family. Fact is that GEORGE PERRY of County Clare
was granted the same (or very similar) Coat of Arms as the Perry family of Water in Devon which would suggest a connection but there
has been little research on this line so far and the exact
ancestry of the family is still very sketchy.
